Chief minister urged to increase profit margin of retailers on flour bags

07 Oct, 2008

Lahore Retailers and General Merchants Association (LRGMA) has urged the Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif to increase the profit margin of retailers on 20 kilograms flour bag to Rs 10 per bag from present rate of Rs 2 per bag.
This demand was raised at a meeting of the Association, which was attended by flour dealers and retailers and presided over by the LRGMA President Rao Muhammad Akram Khan. The meeting also expressed its concern over increasing price of the flour and demanded that the rates should be stabilised. The meeting observed that the retailers were getting Rs 2 per 20 kilograms bag since last 35 years when the flour bag was available at Rs 50 per bag. Now when the flour bag was available at Rs 420 per 20 kilogram, the rate of profit for the retailers was the same.
They further said that both the PPP and PML-N had ruled over the country for many times but profit margin for the retailer was the same. They asked for stopping this step-motherly treatment with the retailers and urged the Chief Minister Punjab to enhance this margin for retailers so they could take care of their children and ensure better education for them.
