Pak-Cuba friendship society formed

To commemorate the services of Cuban doctors and selfless support of Cuban nation in the wake of October 2005 deadly earthquake, Pak-Cuba Friendship Society (PCFS) has been formed. The objectives of the society include promoting friendly relations and bringing two nations closer, to create awareness between the people of two countries about their culture, history and geography.
The society would arrange bilateral visits of journalists, poets, writers and opinion makers to enhance people-to-people contact. The president of Pakistan Economy Watch, Dr Murtaza Mughal has been nominated as President of the society, while renowned columnist, Baig Raj will be the Secretary General.
While, poet and journalist, Ghazanfar Hashmi will be the vice president and drama writer, Farheen Chaudhry has been nominated as. The joint secretary and Azam Effendi will be the patron of the society. Speaking to the occasion, Cuban Ambassador, Gustavo Gomez welcomed the move and thanked the office bearers of PCFS and assured his full support to promote better understanding and friendly ties between the people of two countries.
He said Cuban nation is always ready to help Pakistanis in any hour of need. The President, PCFS, Mughal expressed the hope that the society will try its best to bring people of the two countries together.
Recalling humanitarian services that the Cuban medical mission offered during deadly earthquake, he said it was a great favour to the country. Further, he said that this non-governmental and non-political society would pave the way for an enhanced relationship between people of Pakistan and Cuba.
