Port Qasim Association of Trade and Industry (PQATI) arranged an Eid Milan, well attended by all Port Qasim Authority (PQA) officials, businessmen, industrialists and Business Professionals. Mir Afsar Din Talpur, Chairman Port Qasim Authority was the chief guest at PQATI reception, said a press release on Thursday.
Naeem Ilyas Khanani, Chairman PQATI in his welcome address made various requests to Chairman PQA for the improvement of infrastructure of industrial zones. In reply of PQATI requests, Mir Afsar Din Talpur, Chairman PQA mentioned that:
1. Package-2 of Sewerage system for North Western Industrial Zone will commence shortly.
2. PQA plans to start infrastructure work in Eastern Industrial Zone on fast track basis through FWO/NLC. Approval is being sought from PQA Board and it is expected that work shall start within few months.
3. Selection of consultant for effluent treatment plant is in progress.
4. PQA has recently procured 2 Fire Tenders with all modern facilities to combat any unforeseen incidence. PQA Fire team and PQATI members will arrange Joint Fire Drill by middle of December 2008.
Chairman PQA in his speech informed that PQA handled record cargo volume of more than 26 million tonnes during last financial year catering for more than 40 percent of Pakistan seaborne trade.
He also informed that deepening of Navigational Channel for handling of larger vessels has been approved by the CDWP on September 18, 2008. PQATI requested to widen single carriageway from National Highway to PQA main area to dual carriageway for handling increased traffic after deepening of navigational channel.
PQATI urged revenue department of Sindh government for handing over additional land adjacent to eastern industrial area to PQA as industrial plots have already been allotted by PQA and PQA is collecting Annual Ground Rent without having possession from Revenue Department and with out demarcation of plots as Master Plan will only be finalised after handing over of land to PQA.-PR
