This may please be treated as an open letter addressed to President Asif Ali Zardari instead of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for more than one reasons.
Both President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani belong to the same major political party PPP and more importantly that the PPP's Co-Chairman is calling the shorts and giving all the necessary directions and guidance to the ruling coalition through proper channel. Mr President, Sir. Needless to mention here that you have been elected as the President by the electoral college with thumping majority.
This has put great burden on your shoulders. People from all over the country and hailing from all walks of life including the party leaders, workers and supporters have pinned high hopes and expectations from you. They are keeping their fingers crossed and praying to Almighty Allah to give you enough strength, courage and ability to take right decisions for pulling the country out of the troubled waters.
The admirers of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto see in you a person with strong will and determination who has the potential and capabilities to deliver the goods to their complete satisfaction and expectations. Mr President, Sir, you had outlined the priorities as your vision for Pakistan for the coming years in your maiden address to the joint session of the Parliament recently.
In doing so, you also set some guidelines for the Federal Government. People from all walks of life had duly appreciated the address. But there are no signs of your directions and guidelines being given practical shape by the coalition regime minus the PML (N). There is no doubt that the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Ministers do not have magic wands to solve the problems and resolve the grievances of the people overnight.
But at least they can make a beginning towards that direction with all sincerity, commitment, dedication and devotion as well as determination to serve the masses at large with the best of their capabilities. Every now and then, there has been lot of talking about ruthless accountability of the plunderers and looters of the national wealth and resources with both hands.
But the outcome in concrete terms has not been all that encouraging as this should have been. If the promises made and assurances given are not implemented practically then this would greatly disappoint the people at large.
Whatever is being done by the coalition regime, if at all some action is under way here and there, under your direction and instructions this should be made visible and crystal clear in all possible manner so that the people know for sure that their regime is not sitting idle and just indulging in politicking and statement mongering but also working for the well-being and welfare of the masses at large without discrimination whatsoever.
There is hardly any need to mention here the problems and grievances of the masses as your goodself has been through the mill well aware of these.
What is needed most at this critical juncture of politically chequered, history of Pakistan is to cultivate, promote and strengthen the spirit of patriotism and nationalism right from the top, down to the level of the common man so that Pakistan gains strength, shores to safety and security and all internal and external threats are faced with courage and boldness as you have been raising the slogan of Pakistan Khappey, Khappey.
Towards the end of this open letter, Mr President, Sir, this is to remind you that the time is fast running out for yourself, PPP and more importantly for Pakistan with hostile elements out together to harm the country. You have to act and act now to steer the country out of troubled waters towards safety. People are with you as long as you are addressing their problems and grievances and taking all necessary steps to ward the looming security threats and concerns.
