The federal government has completed construction work of 678 meters of drainage ditches in Ekka Ghond market of Mohmad Agency. Around 5,000 daily visitors of the market will benefit from a safer and cleaner passage and better health conditions, says a press release.
Additional Political Agent of Mohmand Agency Shahid Ullah informed that during the rainy season, the market was almost impossible to access. As a result, people were facing extreme difficulty walking in the market and doing business.
He added that without proper drainage system for the runoff of excess water, the water accumulates and creates unsanitary conditions, leading to diseases and viral infections (such as malaria).
Traders, shopkeepers and customers expressed their jubilation over the completion of the scheme. They said that construction of the drain lines has solved their problems, as water will no more stay in the market. "We are grateful to political administration and Fata secretariat who approved and completed the construction of drain," the tribal elders say.
Regarding the developmental work, Maulana Zar Zada, 32, Imam and religious leader of Ekka Ghond said that "mud and polluted water was one of the several problems of Ekka Ghond Bazaar during rainy season, as shopkeepers and the customers would find it difficult to walk freely in the market" he said.
He added that due to construction of drainage now the rainy water find its way to go out; we are no more face problems of mud and contaminated water.
