A spokesman of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Farhatullah Babar Sunday said there was a lot of explanation to be sought from former president Pervez Musharraf with regard to war on terror policy.
Talking to a private TV channel he said the former president has to do a lot of explanation. For example, how many people were abducted and handed over to other countries in connection with the fight against terrorism. "Besides a couple of other things with regard to war on terror," he observed.
Farhatullah Babar was commenting on a statement of PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif who blamed Pervez Musharraf and held him responsible for the ongoing militancy especially in tribal areas.
Babar said it was 'correct,' saying "Musharraf has to do a lot of explanation." Nawaz Sharif also called for trial of Musharraf by the Parliament. The PPP spokesman said Parliament being a sovereign body has the authority to take decisions about summoning of the former president before it to testify him.
"The decision to call him and testify before the parliament will only be taken by the Parliament. It is the Parliament, which can debate and decide the issue," he remarked.
In reply to a question, he said the government is following a three-pronged strategy to eliminate the menace of extremism and terrorism from the society, adding, "the three-pronged strategy is based on dialogue, development and deterrence."
Elaborating, he said the government was prepared to hold dialogue with those people who would lay down arms. Special attention is being given to development of the tribal areas. Stern action would be taken against those who would challenge writ of the state, Farhatullah Babar maintained.
