PML-N observes October 12 as 'Black Day'

A number of protests meetings were held throughout Punjab by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday agitating against the overthrowing of the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and taking over of government by General Pervez Musharraf on October 12, 1999.
The PML-N party terming the day as 'Black Day', its Lawyers' Forum during the day here agitated in front of Lahore Press Club. The lawyers of PML-N demanded upon the government to make necessary amendments in the Constitution to block the way of any dictator in the Country in future.
They demanded that all unconstitutional steps taken in the past should be done away with immediately in the best interests of democracy and the Country.
The lawyers raising slogans asked for restoration of the constitution of the country in its original form as it was on 12,October 1999.
The PML-N lawyers demanded that in the interest of independence of judiciary Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry be reinstated.
Khawaja Mahmud ul Hassan President Lawyers Forum PML-N in his address during the protest said that in future no one would be allowed to enter an adventure of the type undertaken by General Pervez Musharraf in 1999.
He said that their forum would keep on endeavouring for the supremacy of law and justice in the country. Khawaja said their party Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was committed to reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
MNA Anosha Rehman on the occasion castigated enforcement of authoritarian rule in the country in the past and said that they would not let this occur again. The lawyers were also holding banners depicting various slogans in support of democracy during the agitation.
