28 investigation officers face dismissal, rank reversion

As many as 28 Investigation Officers (IOs) of City Police were awarded punishments including dismissal from service and reversion to lower rank for conducting faulty investigation.
Police sources told APP on Sunday that three ASI were dismissed and two others were reverted to the rank of Head Constables while one to three years annual increments of 17 Sub Inspectors, ASIs, Head Constables and Constables were withheld.
Five other Sub Inspectors and one ASI were given final warning and asked to be careful in future. All these punishments were awarded by SP (Investigation) Allama Iqbal Division, Shoaib Khurram Janbaz during an orderly room held a couple of days ago.
When contacted, SP Janbaz told APP that such IOs were found guilty and served show cause notices for dismissal from service under section 7 of the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act 2006. In case of any other negligence, the guilty IOs will be reverted to lower rank, he said adding that in minor negligence, his service for specific period will be seized.
DSPs, Inspectors and other subordinate officers during investigation of cases must personally visit the sites of occurrence, record the statements of witnesses and collect all relevant information required under the law, he added.
SP further said all the accused named in the FIR and found involved in the commission of offence, should be rounded up without any delay as facility of transport has been provided to investigation staff of all police stations. He also directed them to conduct investigation strictly in accordance with law.
Shoaib said that injustice with any person could never be tolerated and it is the duty of IOs to deliver justice to the people.
