Customs authorities in Lahore have busted a gang of importer and customs clearing agent involved in wrong declaration of 17 containers to evade duties and taxes involving Rs 25 million.
Customs authorities in Lahore have arrested a custom clearing agent, importer and a custom examiner for committing a tax fraud by wrong declaration of imported assignment, it is reliably learnt late Monday night.
The relevant Customs officials have registered a case against the gang of importer and custom clearing agent in Lahore under Section 32 of the Custom Act 1969. This section is related to prosecution and punishment under Custom Act.
Details revealed that Model Custom Collectorate Lahore intercepted a container containing mobile phone parts and accessories, which was wrongly declared to evade duties and taxes.
The amount of evasion involved in this 40-feet container is around Rs 7 lac. The checking of tax record of the same importer confirmed that 17 containers were cleared by the same gang involving evasion of duties and taxes to the tune of Rs 25 million.
The Lahore Collectorate has taken prompt action against the importer/custom clearing agent and customs examiner after obtaining necessary approval from the Tax Authorities of Federal Board of Revenue, Islamabad.
