PIC launches scheme to provide free medicine

Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has launched a new scheme to provide free of cost medicines to its indoor patients of Irfan Block, Jillani Block, cardiac surgery and general wards including emergency patients.
Medical Superintendent, PIC, Dr Riaz Ahmad Chaudhry in a press release said on Sunday that outdoor patients was already being provided with free medicines for a period of one month by the hospital management and daily 1500 patients visit PIC for cardiovascular treatment purposes.
In order to accommodate the increasing number of OPD patients, a new additional building of OPD is being constructed rapidly at a cost of Rs 160 million and its basement and three floors have been completed, whereas, emergency ward was under construction and would be completed within the stipulated time.
Dr Riaz said that PIC will be made a model institute for treatment of the cardiovascular disease for the benefit of people from country as well as out side the country. Further, he said that for the purpose of extending state of the art medical facilities to the patients, the institute is being provided with all possible assistance from the government.
Dr Riaz also said that doctors, nurses and paramedics of Multan and Faisalabad Institutes of Cardiology were also being provided with specialised training at PIC, therefore, the institute has become the mother institute for other hospitals of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, the institute has received ISO-9001-2000 certification for its departments, pathology, radiology and quality management, he said adding that this is the first public sector hospital, which has earned this distinction.
