Pakistan signs UN convention for rights of disabled persons

Pakistan has signed the UN convention for the rights of disabled persons and has become 135th country across the globe. This was stated by Rashida Faheem, representative, Children's Museum for Peace and Human Rights (CMPHR) in a press conference held at Karachi Press Club on Tuesday.
She said that over 55 schools from Karachi have collected some 75,000 signatures on a petition and stressed government of Pakistan to sign the convention. She said that the petition representing the signatures collected by the children was first given to Barrister Shahida Jameel, the former minister for social welfare and special education.
Thereafter, it had been handed over to Nawabzada Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti, minister for social welfare and special education to take the responsibility in this regard.
She said that the government of Pakistan has shown its support for the principles included in the convention. She added that Pakistan is going to ratify the convention, which would respect, protect and fulfil the rights of disabled persons.
