White Cane Day today

15 Oct, 2008

International White Cane Day is being observed in Pakistan as elsewhere in the world today (October 15). The 'White Cane Day' is observed every year on October 15 all over the world for creating greater awareness among the people for helping those fellow human beings who are suffering from blindness or reduced visibility.
The White Cane is symbolic of blind or semi-blind people who are invariably extended help and assistance by others who are fortunate enough to be blessed with seeing capability by Almighty Allah. In his message, prominent artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer in furtherance of his welfare-oriented activities for the special children has organised a walk with the blind children in Karachi.
The walk will be held in the vicinity of the mazar of the Quaid-e-Azam and special children will be entertained to refreshments. Blind children from various special education institutions in the public and private sectors of Karachi will be taking part in the walk to highlight the importance of the White Cane Day.
Jimmy Engineer has been working for the welfare of the mentally-retarded and physically handicapped, deaf and dumb children for the last more than five years by organising fun, food and awareness programmes for the special children in Karachi as well as in Lahore besides organising walks of different occasions for them.
