Ghee price has declined by Rs 20 in the retail market to Rs 135 per kg following decline in the price of palm oil in the world market, traders said on Wednesday. While price of low quality ghee reached Rs 110 per kg as compared to Rs 120, retailers said.
They further said that in spite of a huge decline in the price of palm oil globally, the ghee manufacturers have made a nominal decrease in the commodity price. However, Shaikh Amjad Rafique, chairman of Vanaspati Ghee Association said that the manufacturers have reduced the price of ghee hugely in the face of high cost of production. He said that inland transportation charges have also gone up by at least 40 percent in the wake of soaring petroleum products prices. Besides this, rise in the electricity and gas tariffs is also responsible for commodity price hike.
