Punjab takes measures to alleviate poverty: chief minister

Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that government is taking measures on war footing to cope with the situation arising out of international economic and food crises. He was talking to a delegation of economists on International Food Day in Murree. This was revealed in information received from Chief Minister quarters here on Friday.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government had taken effective and far-reaching steps within a short period for elimination of poverty and raising standard of living of the people under Poverty Alleviation Programme. He said that the whole world had been in the grip of economic and food crises and there was need for adopting a solid strategy for coping with the situation.
He said that in addition to food support programme, the government had also launched Sasti Roti Scheme to provide relief to the poor. The Chief Minister asked economists to submit him concrete and practical proposals for the provision of food and health facilities to the poor masses under Poverty Alleviation Programme.
