The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has appointed Mumtaz Haider Rizvi, Member, Fiscal Research and Statistics (FRS), as head of a committee to examine a case pertaining to misdeclaration of an imported consignment at Lahore Dry Port, which resulted in the arrest of a Lahore-based customs clearing agent.
On Sunday, the Chairman of All Pakistan Customs Agents Association, Shams Birney, and Abdullah Sheikh, Information Secretary, Karachi Customs Agents Association, appreciated the steps taken by FBR Chairman Ahmed Waqar to end the strike at Lahore Dry Port last week.
According to All Pakistan Customs Agents Association, Lahore Collectorate had lodged FIR against the clearing agent without properly examining the issue. In this regard, the FBR Chairman immediately intervened in the matter and appointed Mumtaz Haider Rizvi to handle the issue. The Member, FRS, assured the representatives of APCAA, KCAA and LCAA that the matter would be resolved with their consultation. On the intervention by FBR Chairman and Member, FRS, the APCAA gave call to LCAA to end strike, in the interest of national economy & revenue collection, the association said.
