Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that provision of healthcare facilities is one of the top priorities of the government and solid measures are being taken for improvement of health sector and health facilities in the hospitals. Financial and administrative autonomy in real sense has been given to teaching hospitals of the province to improve the affairs of the hospitals, he added.
He said that special attention is being paid for controlling eye diseases and blindness and a high level committee has been constituted in this regard which will submit its recommendations for checking this disease.
He said this during a briefing given by the Principal, College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences, here on Sunday. The meeting reviewed various matters regarding further improvement of facilities provided for the treatment of eye diseases and blindness.
Addressing the meeting Chief Minister said that in order to provide medical facilities to the people at their doorsteps, availability of medical equipment, medicines, doctors and paramedical staff at basic and rural health centers, tehsil and district headquarters hospitals are being ensured throughout the province. Dialysis centers are being established for the treatment of kidney patients where free treatment facilities will be available to the poor patients. He said that the conditions in health sector have worsened and he himself witnessed this fact during his visits of various districts.
