President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani took serious note of the differences in power tariff in different parts of the country and said that uniform tariff structure is imperative for removing the reservations of the people. A meeting between the two leaders held in Aiwan-e-Sadr to review the current power shortage.
The meeting was also attended by Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, Shaukat Tarin, and Special Assistant on Economic Affairs, Hina Rabbani Khar, Chairman National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), Secretary Finance and Secretary Petroleum.
Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf briefed the President and the Prime Minister about the power situation. They have directed the concerned authorities to ensure uniform tariff structure and rates for respective categories, across the country with immediate effect.
The meeting directed the KESC management to issue new bills to people under the revised power tariff. It has also directed the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) to ensure unhindered oil supply to all power generation companies (Gencos) as per their requirements from today. The meeting was of the view that uninterrupted gas supply to the power sector be ensured to help a smooth power generation for catering the load shedding.
