The government on Monday took stringent measures to bar deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and protesting lawyers from entering the red zone due to security reasons. No other vehicle was allowed in the area except the vehicles of MNAs and Senators who were supposed to attend the in-camera joint session of parliament.
Heavy contingents of rangers, riot police, anti terrorist squad and Islamabad Police were deployed at every entry point of the Capital, particularly the red zone. All entrances to Judges Colony and Supreme Court building were blocked to stop the processions.
Besides government employees, journalists and the representatives of lawyers were not allowed to enter the colony and the red zone. When Aitzaz Ahsan and other lawyer leaders arrived at Supreme Court, they were barred from entering the building. However, after three hours, the administration resolved the issue.
It is pertinent to note that deposed chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was invited by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to attend its meeting and had a group photo with the outgoing office-bearers of SCBA.
Meanwhile, people particularly living in diplomatic enclave and Bari Imam suffered a lot due to complete closure of the Constitution Avenue. Children studying in educational institutions in the Diplomatic Enclave were the main sufferers are their parents were not allowed to enter the diplomatic enclave in spite of having cards and special permissions.
