There is a need to promote public-private partnership in setting up hydel power plants having capacity to produce 125MW electricity, said Faridullah Khan, MD, Enercon, while briefing media here on Friday.
He said that about 2500MW electricity could be saved by exploring different avenues and availing various opportunities.
He said that hydel power plants could provide electricity at Rs 2 unit which is too low as compared to other sources of power generation. He said that this is the best opportunity for the private sector. Talking about bio gas plants he said that there is a need to install at least 5 million plants in the country. The cost of each plant is approximately Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 for which the government is already giving half subsidy.
About 1200 bio gas plants have been installed by the government last year. He said that plants on major canals in Punjab could generate 380MW electricity. He further stressed upon the need that federal bureau of revenue should simplify the procedure of importing equipment for generating solar energy in the county. "There is a need to create awareness among the masses to adopt those measures through which a large quantity of energy could be saved to bring country from the darkness," he added.
