The Record of Discussion, for launching "The project for development of Centre of Excellence for Technical Education" will be signed between Japan International Co-operation Agency (Jica) and the Government of Pakistan on October 31, 2008 at National Vocational & Technical Education Commission (Navtec), Islamabad.
The project will be implemented by Government College of Technology (GCT), Railway Road, Lahore in collaboration with Tevta and Navtec.
The captioned project aims at upgrading GCT, Railway Road, Lahore from a provincial college of technology to a model centre of excellence. The centre of excellence will equip the students with latest knowledge in vogue in the industry and will provide quality workforce to the industrial market. In the later stage, the experience of the project will be further extended to other Tevta institutes. The project will commence from 15 December 2008 and will conclude on 14 December 2013.
The Jica is the official agency of government of Japan which is responsible for the provision of technical assistance, grant aid and ODA Loans (Soft Loans) to the government of Pakistan. The annual assistance of the government of Japan to Pakistan is around 500 million dollars. Besides Jica's contribution to the sectors like health, sanitation, environment, irrigation, agriculture, energy, economic infrastructure & economic development, its contribution in education sector is of immense importance.
