The e-policing project that envisages the computerisation and inter-linking of all the police stations of Sindh through the Internet is in full swing and would be completed soon. "The system would ensure an improved performance of the police department regarding the lodging of FIRs, investigating of crime, resolving public complaints.
It would also streamline the system of receiving feedback and monitoring of the performance of police stations", sources at the E-Police Department told Business Recorder on Wednesday. After the computerisation process, initiated in collaboration with the Sindh Information Technology (IT) Department, the sources said, all the complaints and FIRs registered with different police stations would be uploaded to a databank using a special software, which could be directly accessed by the higher authorities including the DPOs, RPOs, DIGs and the IGP.
In this regard, they said, the high officials could also keep a track on public complaints and their current status in various police stations of the police. The police stations would be connected through Geographical Information System (GIS) based technology to the Centralised Data Center located at the Central Police Officer (CPO), Karachi.
"The performance of all the police stations would be monitored and in case of any negligence on the part of police officials, immediate stern action can be taken against them", they added. They said the centralised system would also keep checks on the patrolling of the police in their areas of jurisdiction, as their positions would appear in the main Command and Control Center and any immediate order can easily be conveyed to the patrolling mobile vehicles.
The sources informed that the rescue center through GIS-based system would also help curb crime and other untoward incidents. In case of any fire, or any natural disaster etc, the rescue center would pass the information to the nearby mobile vans, fire brigade and ambulance services.
The Sindh police in collaboration with the IT Department would upgrade the traffic management system by installing surveillance cameras at the traffic routes. They claimed that the official website of the police department was running successfully, which was launched in November 2007, adding that the citizens were also registering their cases of snatching etc by visiting the site.
They said the citizens could also give their advertisement of missing beloved on the website and added that complete details of the functioning of the department, transfers and postings etc were being updated on daily basis. The complaints of the masses are being resolved as the higher authorities of the department log on to the website daily and take notice of the grievances of the people, they concluded.
