Rs four billion soft loan being offered to farmers: Punjab chief minister

The President, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Punjab, Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood accompanied by his party MNA Jahangir Khan Tareen called on Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Monday and discussed development projects in the province.
Shahbaz told the PML-Functional leaders that his government was offering soft-term agri-loans of Rs 4 billion to the cultivators through Bank of Punjab (BoP), in addition to the measures to ensure due returns to the farmers for their produce. Punjab government is paying special attention to rapid development of the province, people's welfare and provision of basic amenities to the citizens, he said.
The CM further said that agriculture sector is being developed on priority basis as it is the backbone of national economy. 'The government is providing quality seed; agri-implements and subsidised green tractors to the farmers, which will subsequently increase agriculture production,' Shahbaz said.
Further, he said that high agri-production could help overcome some major economic problems. The CM also said that good number of cold storage are being constructed in five major cities of the province for the export of vegetable, fruit and other agri-items.
Referring to the government's Food Support Programme, he said Sasti Roti scheme is giving substantial relief to the poor masses. Furthermore, economic and trade activities are being promoted in the province through a comprehensive strategy, which will help in alleviating poverty and overcoming unemployment, Punjab CM added.
