MCCI expresses concern over closure of industrial units

The Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), President, Khawaja Muhammad Jalaluddin Roomi has expressed his concern over the continuous load shedding of electricity in textile sector, Multan region said that instructions of Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) and the Federal Government were being violated in Mepco region.
He said in a press statement issued on Monday that there was no facility of uninterrupted power supply round the clock and at least six hours of load shedding was observed in textile sector of southern Punjab affecting the manufacturing of exportable products.
'Textile millers are unable to meet the demand of foreign buyers,' he said. District Co-ordination Officer, Multan, Fazeel Asghar visited the MCCI and exchanged views with the member of the executive committee. The MCCI President and other members apprised of him their grievances concerning the power load shedding.
They also presented various proposals and solutions to meet the energy crisis and restore flawless supply of electricity to the industry. 'Closure of industrial units in Multan will render thousands of workers jobless and they would naturally come out on the streets. Roomi further said that the MCCI can help initiate the power projects under public private partnership and they are ready to co-operate in re-commissioning all the closed power generating units.
