The consultative meeting of National Assembly Speaker with parliamentary leaders of all political parties was held here on Monday to constitute a parliamentary committee to monitor the implementation of the joint resolution passed by the Parliament at the end of the in-camera briefing. The meeting was held in Speaker's chamber. The parliamentarians will meet again on Tuesday to finalise names of committee members.
"PML-Q nominated Senators Wasim Sajjad and Amir Moqam for committee members whereas Munir Orakzai may represent MNAs and Israrullah Zehri from Balochistan", sources said.
However, PML-N did not give names of its members, suggesting that it may ne a small committee. Speaker Fehmida Mirza had separate meetings with parliamentary leaders in Senate and National Assembly to elicit their opinion to constitute the Committee.
The Speaker congratulated the parties' leaders on passing unanimous resolution during the joint sitting, terming its passage historical and a milestone in the parliamentary history of the country.
She said that the passage of the resolution showed maturity of the politicians on the issues of vital national interests. She said that all parliamentary parties acted according to the aspirations of the people and did not disappoint them. She said that the resolution has upheld the sovereignty of the parliament.
The Parliamentary leaders also lauded her for initiating consultations for creating censuses prior to constituting the Oversight Committee. The Parliamentary leaders said that the passage of the resolution had strengthened people's faith in democracy and the parliament.
They said that the constitution of the oversight committee was unique in the parliamentary history of Pakistan and would go a long way in reshaping and formation of policies of national importance according to the aspiration and wishes of the people of Pakistan. They assured the Speaker of their full support in constitution and functioning of the committee.
