05 Nov, 2008

The calendar of activities for celebration of 2009, the Year of Environment, would be finalised by the last week of the current month and subsequently will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.
This was stated by Federal Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi, while chairing a meeting to review the proposals submitted by the provinces, environmental NGOs and others stakeholders here on Tuesday. He said that the ministry was planning to issue commemorative stamps on National Year of Environment on January 1, 2009, hold international summit on climate change, international conference and exhibition on environment, awareness campaign on environmental issues, resume green journalist and green industry awards and mark the environmental days.
Afridi said: "We would encourage the corporate sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government departments and volunteers to mark the celebration of the Year of Environment a success." The meeting decided that the ministry would engage media for creating public awareness, and would request the electronic media regulatory authority to ask the electronic medic to allocate 10 percent of total time for public awareness messages.
