Welcoming statements of President-elect Barack Obama on Kashmir dispute, APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq hoped he would play his role in settling the issue. He said the new President would use his good offices to settle big issues in the world including Kashmir for sake of global and regional peace.
He also condemned banning of advertisements and statements of Hurriyat leaders in Kashmir media. It was unfortunate that point of view of representatives of twelve million Kashmiris is being blocked in the media. Syed Ali Shah Geelani welcoming the election of Barack Obama hoped that he would use his good offices to get the UN resolutions on Kashmir implemented.
According to the UN resolutions Kashmir is a dispute which is required to be settled, he said. He also condemned banning of ads and statements by Hurriyat leaders in Kashmir media. He said Kashmiris have offered great sacrifices for Kashmir cause which would not go waste, he said.
Syed Ali Shah has returned to New Delhi from Mumbai after going through kidney tests. Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has been put under house arrest on Wednesday morning to prevent him leading a March towards Jamia Masjid on November 6 in connection with Shuhad-e-Jammu Day.
