Minister for Population Welfare Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Thursday that government was committed to overcome population problem, which was main challenge for the country. She was speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony held by National Institute of Population studies for trainees here.
She said that ministry would continue all the projects in collaboration with the UNFPA for the development of the country. She said that these training would help provide orientation on project proposal and writing a technical research paper, which would go a long way in working out home-grown solutions for population issue.
Executive Director of (NIPS) Muhammad Ali Afridi said that the main objectives of the NIPS was to initiate action oriented research and surveys in the field of population and development. He said the institute also undertakes evaluations of the various components of the population welfare programme and carry out operations research and experimentation on innovative approaches to population and development.
He also underlined the need for creating awareness about the implications of the rapid population growth for the socio-economic development of the country. He said the National Institute of Population Studies (NIPS) is responsible for undertaking applied and inter-disciplinary research in the field of population and development. Later the minister gave way certificates to 20 trainees of the programme. Dr Hulki Uz, country representative UNFPA also addressed on the occasion.
