The Jammu and Kashmir Co-ordination Committee in occupied Kashmir on Friday announced its programme to counter the so-called assembly elections in the Indian Held Kashmir. According to Kashmir Media Service, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
While announcing the programme of the Committee, said that massive marches would be held on the so-called polling days towards the constituencies where the farcical elections would be conducted.
"We appeal people to assemble at the district headquarters of the constituencies on the election days. There will be complete shutdown on the elections days, however, transport has been exempted to facilitate people and journalists to reach the venue," Mirwaiz, who has been placed under house arrest, told media persons.
Mirwaiz said that the Co-ordination Committee has given go ahead to the Lal Chowk Chalo on December 24, the day when polling will be held in Srinagar. "On the day, people will assemble at Lal Chowk and then march to the United Nations Observers' Office at Sonawar to submit a memorandum regarding the elections and Kashmir dispute," he added.
Rejecting the so-called polls in the occupied territory, the APHC Chairman pointed out that elections could not be a substitute to Kashmiris' right to self-determination adding that the people of Kashmir have not been offering sacrifices for elections but for plebiscite. He condemned the imposition of curfew in the Valley to stop the march towards the Jamia Masjid.
"This shows the frustration of Indian government. The authorities are so shattered by the fresh revolution for freedom that they did not allow people to assemble for paying homage to the martyrs of 1947. The international community should take a note of it," he said.
The APHC Chairman paid glowing tributes to the million of Muslims who were martyred by the forces of Dogra Maharaja, Indian troops and Hindu extremists in Jammu during the first week of November in 1947. "Kashmiris are still being killed at will and whim of the troopers. On the anniversary of Jammu martyrs, we resolve to take the ongoing freedom movement to its logical conclusion," he added.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Bashir Ahmad Butt, in media interview in Srinagar, said that imposition of curfew or any other measure could not suppress Kashmiris' sentiments for liberation. He asked the people to follow and make the programmes of the Co-ordination Committee a success.
