Pakistan Science Foundation, Ministry of Science and Technology, would organise various activities in collaboration with Unesco and other organisations to observe November 10 as World Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD).
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) during the General Conference at its 31st session (2001) proclaimed November 10 each year as "World Science Day for Peace". Initially the proposal was given by eminent country scientist Dr Ishfaq Ahmad, Advisor (S&T)/ Minister of State, Planning Commission Government of Pakistan.
This year the Foundation is holding a number of programmes in its Science Centres at Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Karachi, Quetta, Sukkur and Islamabad. The major programme of the WSDPD celebrations is "Convention on Science for Peace and Development" being held at Hotel Margala, Kashmir Highway Islamabad on November 10, at 10am.
Dr Ishfaq Ahmad, Advisor (S&T) Minister of State, Planning Commission will preside over and Saifullah Khan Sherwani, Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology will be the chief guest. Large number of scientists as well as students are invited to attend the convention.
