15 Nov, 2008

President High Court Bar Association Multan (HCBA) Mehmood Ashraf Khan said that the government had two options; either to prosecute Musharraf under Article 6 for high treason and subversion of the constitution or to repeal Article 6 to protect his illegal acts.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday he said that if a political party followed in the footsteps of Musharraf, it would be considered part of the anti-democratic force. Rao Zafar Iqbal of Jamaat-i-Islami said that the APDM, including his party had boycotted the election arranged by former President Musharraf to demonstrate their commitment to democracy.
He said that the party was ready to take necessary steps to ensure the establishment of an independent judiciary in the country, adding that a civil disobedience campaign should be started to dislodge the government. PML-N leader Allah Nawaz Khan Durrani lauded the lawyers for continuing their struggle, and reaffirmed party's commitment to the cause of an independent judiciary.
