Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday offered unconditional support to the government for doing away with Article 58(2) b. Addressing a press conference in the presence of other leaders of PML-Q, he asked the government to take the nation and parliament into confidence on taking loan from international financial institutions, besides other issues.
Expressing dissent for taking loan from International Monetary Fund (IMF), he said that it would add to inflation and unemployment in the country. He said the people are already distressed by increasing inflation and unemployment and are heavily bogged down by increase in prices of electricity, gas and other items.
He said that so severe is the financial crisis that it appears that the present government would have to reintroduce taxes, abolished during the tenure of previous regime.
The former chief minister, who attended a convention of PML-Q earlier, was pressed by workers to cancel PML-Q membership of Hamid Nasir Chattha. Elahi, criticising PML-N, said that this party instead of relief believed in revenge. He said workers of his party were being arrested throughout the province and added that PML-N had learnt no lesson from democracy.
He said it was strange that PML-N here in the province was sharing power with PPP, while in the centre it had opposite policy. He warned of serious consequences to those elements in the party which are creating chaos in party ranks. He said that PML-Q would launch a contact with masses campaign against the provincial government here. He said PML-Q during its tenure had delivered to the masses substantially and would do so in future, adding that future of his party was very bright.
