Reduction in POL prices: IHC reissues notice to Petroleum Ministry

19 Nov, 2008

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday reissued notice to Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources pertaining to a petition seeking reduction in prices of petroleum products. A single member bench of Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam is hearing the case.
Advocate Kowkab Iqbal filed the petition saying that the prices of petrol had witnessed a tremendous decline in the international market but the government has not passed on due relief to the people.
Kowkab said the recent cut in prices of petroleum products announced by the government was insufficient as in the international market petrol price has come down to $50 per barrel from $150. Citing the example of neighbouring country, he said prices of petroleum products in India were half as compared to Pakistan.
