The United States Information Resource Centre, Lahore, in collaboration with Pakistan Engineering Congress and Pakistan Chapter of American Concrete Association organised a seminar titled, 'Learning Lessons From World Trade Centre collapse on Ground Zero'.
A panel of experts shared its observations after video screening of the WTC incident. During the seminar the experts focused on the lessons, which could be drawn from the incident particularly highlighted the architectural aspect of high rise building and their security as per international standards.
Speaking on the occasion Head of the Architectural Department Dr Shabih ul Hassan Zaidi focused on the, Architectural Engineering aspects of the video.
He also said that this discussion would help the engineers to carry out investigation into Engineering mishaps and make its findings public for dissemination of knowledge.
Giving his comments regarding seminar, Secretary Pakistan Engineering Congress, Chaudhry Gulam Hussain has said that this seminar will significantly help create awareness among the engineers to avoid lapses while designing the buildings.
Vice President of the American Concrete Institute Pakistan Chapter Engineer, M Siddique Essa, said that buildings should be made with fire proofing material to avoid fire because in WTC fire caused much of the destruction.
Engineer Dr Javaid Yunas Uppal, while sharing Structural Engineering tips said that buildings should be made with more exits to avoid human loss. Engineer Mian Abdul Haque presented Electrical Standard for the buildings and said that government should check the standard of electrification of the buildings to avoid short circuits.
