Indonesian shares ended 0.8 percent higher on Thursday in line with gains across Asia, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index rose 8.92 points to 1,202.07 on volume of 3.1 billion shares valued at 2.3 trillion rupiah (190.9 million dollars).
"Bank stocks led gains I think because people expect (central bank) Bank Indonesia will not raise interest rates any more. The only direction for interest rates is down," a dealer told Dow Jones Newswires. Top gainers included Bank Negara, which rose 14.1 percent and Bank Rakyat, which rose 15.6 percent.
