Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin has said that the government would make rightsizing of state institutions in corporate sector to make them profitable units - a step that would help beef up domestic economy. He was talking to French Ambassador Daniel Jauanneau who called on him here on Friday, says a press release.
They exchanged views on mattes relating to bilateral economic co-operation and expansion of trade ties between the two friendly countries. Tarin briefed the ambassador about government's 9-point agenda that principally focuses Economic Stabilisation Plan and overall restoration of economic health in view of ongoing global financial crisis that has regional overtones.
He said Pakistan has finalised its home-grown economic stabilisation program that has been endorsed by IMF and appreciated by Friends of Pakistan. "Pakistan is working hard to gear up its domestic economic policies in a manner that (firstly) imbalances in domestic economy are addressed and (secondly) it is placed on a fast-tracked development pace", Tarin added.
The government is putting in place an indigenous revenue generation plan that brings all sectors of economy into tax net to increase the revenue earnings, simultaneously paying attention to education, health, infrastructure development, he informed the French ambassador.
The discussion also focused on revamping of Planning Commission of Pakistan with an Overarching Policy Board that dynamically speeds up the implementation of all economic, development and social sector planning. The French envoy appreciated GoP's political vision in fast-tracking its development agenda in sync with all stakeholders.
Tarin also briefed the Ambassador on rightsizing of state institutions in corporate sector and the efforts of the government to shore up Pakistan's forex reserve levels besides bringing the fiscal deficit down.-PR
