Efforts are being geared up to make National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) as Number One Islamic bank of the country. Ibrar A Mumtaz, Director, NBP, said this while inaugurating Islamic banking branch of NBP in Madina Town here.
He said that NBP is one of the most stable and credible banks, and it was in this respect that it remained unaffected despite continuous global financial crisis. He said that Islamic banking has taken its roots in Pakistan. "We entered this field with a little bit delay, but we would try to give best banking services to people in according to their faith," he said.
He said that a large number of customers want to switch over to Islamic banking, and three branches of NBP are already providing Islamic banking services to people in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar.
"The fourth branch is being inaugurated here today, and it would extend Islamic banking facilities to the business community of Faisalabad," he said, and added that a fifth branch of Islamic banking would be opened very soon in Rawalpindi.
N B Soomro, Chief of Islamic Banking Group, also explained various Islamic products introduced by NBP. Muhammad Aqib, Regional Business Chief, said that some NBP clients were already doing business with Islamic banking branch at Karachi. However, this branch would extend them Islamic banking services at their doorsteps.
