US missile strikes: PML-N stages rally to condemn military operation in tribal areas

30 Nov, 2008

Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) activists led by Shaikh Muhammad Younas president of PP-199 unit today staged a protest demonstration to condemn the increasing US missile strikes and ongoing military operation in the tribal and some settled districts of NWFP. The protesters were holding party flags, banners and placards inscribed with anti-US and anti-government slogans.
They were also chanting vociferous slogans against the US and demanded of the government to stop military operations in various parts of the country. To express their anger against US, the protesters also torched a US flag.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh Muhammad Younas blasted at the PPP-government, saying it is following the same policy that was initiated by former president Parvez Musharraf. "The US is showering missiles on us, killing innocent people despite all our favours and co-operation in the so-called war against terror," the PML-N leader added.
"The security forces, too, are massacring our own countrymen in tribal areas and Swat just to appease the Americans. Thousands of people were compelled to leave their hometowns due to the military operation," he said. Younas claimed that thousands of innocent people, including women and children, have been killed in the operations so far.
He said the government has no plans to give compensation to those killed or injured in the operations and arrange accommodation for those migrated to safer districts from the troubled areas.
He maintained that the internally displaced persons (IDPs) are spending their nights under the open sky in this severe cold. He demanded of the government to immediately review the foreign policy, leave reliance on US and stop killing own people in the name of operation against miscreants.
