Local commodities prices generally depicted softer tone despite world markets showing somewhat rising instance during the week ended on November, 29,2008 though retailers here bundled with small lots of tea, sugar, rice, castorseed, from Lasbela and Sindh and cotton cakes.
On Monday falling trend on the grain market was pronounced though buying was quite restricted in wheat, which was quoted at Rs 2815, sugar crushing begun in some places sent prices down as it shed Rs 50 to Rs 3200 and better type was seen at Rs 3350. The rice sector kept pace and Irri-6 shed Rs 50 to Rs 2350 as retailers visited markets to keep an eye on price line. Castorseed Lasbela and Sindh conceded Rs 100 to Rs 1100 while inferior type was quoted at Rs 1000, cottonseed cakes with bag in Sindh down by Rs 40 to Rs 780 while better type shed Rs 50 to Rs 800.
On Jodia Bazaar mostly the imported tea from Kenya prices moved down (per kg) PF-1 A Grade closed Rs 10 down to Rs 250, B grade lost Rs 10 to Rs 240, plus C grade shed Rs 7 to Rs 220 and C grade ended down by Rs 30 to Rs 200, BP-1 A grade closed down by Rs 20 to Rs 260, B grade lost Rs 10 to Rs 250, plus C grade shed Rs 15 to Rs 235 and C grade shed Rs 20 to Rs 225.
On Tuesday fluctuations in commodities were not reported, as dealers said buyers possibly wanted to lay hands on cheaper stuffs.
On Wednesday mostly plastic mouldings transacted on Jodia Bazaar stayed lower with exception of a new, plastic moulding compound HDPE film Saudia closed lower by Rs 2 to Rs 58, Mobil ended down by Rs 2 to Rs 58, TR 144 conceded Rs 3 to Rs 55, HDPE injection Sabic 200056 however rose by Re1 to Rs 70, Mobil shed Re 1 to Rs 47 and Iran conceded Re 1 to Rs 47, HDPE blow closed down by Rs 2 to Rs 53, and Iran closed down by Rs 2 to Rs 53, polypropylene tape grade India down by Rs 2 to Rs 40, Kuwait was lower by Rs 2 to Rs 40 and Saudia down Rs 2 to Rs 40, India lost Rs 3 to Rs 42, Kuwait shed same amount to Rs 42, polyesters Basf closed lower by Rs 300 to Rs 2500 and Pakistan was quoted at Rs 2196, Copoly Black gained Rs 5 to Rs 60 and Randon was higher by Rs 7 to Rs 70, High Impact (per bag) Pakistani was quoted at RS 2653.
The commodities showed softening trend on Wednesday rapeseed Nawabshah shed Rs 50 to Rs 1425 while the better one was quoted at Rs 1450, rapeseed Mirpur shed above amount to Rs 1375, til fine type was put at Rs 3000 while inferior type shed Rs 100 to Rs 2500, cottonseed oilcakes with bag new selling in Punjab inferior type conceded Rs 50 to Rs 650, the better type shed Rs 80 to Rs 700, cottonseed oilcakes with bag old variety lost Rs 20 to Rs 780, while better quality shed Rs 25 to Rs 785, cottonseed oilcakes with bag selling in Sindh down Rs 25 to Rs 785, cottonseed oilcake with bags in Sindh was lower quoted at Rs 725 and better type quoted at Rs 730, cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh new was down by Rs 15 inferior quality quoted at Rs 780 while the better type was quoted at RS 785, Irri white broken showed softer trend as it lost Rs 50 to Rs 1750.
On Thursday on expectations of positive measures to stabilise prices, the prices of cottonseed oilcake with bag Punjab old low type was up by Rs 120 to Rs 780 and best type also gained Rs 185 to Rs 785, cottonseed oilcake with bag Punjab new low type was higher by Rs 20 to Rs 800 and good type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 810 and cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh new also picked up the same amount at the same rate. Guwar from Sindh inferior type was up by Rs 50 to Rs 2200 and good type gained Rs 50 to Rs 2300.
On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items moved both ways. The changes were (per 40 kg): Black pepper Singapore edged down by Rs 200 to Rs 10,000, black pepper Ceylon finished lower by Rs 400 to Rs 9,800, mace ended higher by Rs 800 to Rs 37,600, cloves moved downward by Rs 1000 to Rs 14,000, dry ginger (Ethiopia) moved lower by Rs 200 to Rs 3,100, gum Arabic finished up by Rs 1,600 to Rs 7000, Isbaghol Bhoosi went lower by Rs 800 to Rs 19,000, Sago ended down by Rs 30 to Rs 1,900, Star Aniseed edged down by Rs 500 to Rs 6,500, cuminseed closed lower by Rs 300 to Rs 7,800 and Darchini went upward by Rs 150 to Rs 4,400.
On Friday there was, as usual, no activity on seeds and grain markets except preparations for Juma prayers.
On Jodia Bazaar Kenyan tea showed mixed trend. The changes were: KENYAN TEA (per kg): D-1: A Grade ended down by Rs 10 to Rs 250, B Grade moved lower by Rs 5 to Rs 240 and plus C Grade was quoted at Rs 230.
DUST: A Grade went higher by Rs 10 to Rs 210, B Grade edged down by Rs 5 to Rs 200 and plus C Grade was quoted at Rs 220.
BANGLADESH: Garden pack (original) moved downward by Rs 30 to Rs 160, Gulab went lower by Rs 30 to Rs 160, Khushbu finished down by Rs 40 to Rs 155 and Garden pack/BOP finished lower by Rs 30 to Rs 160.
