LDA continues demolishing encroachments

In connection with the ongoing drive against encroachment, the staff of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) removed scores of infringements from Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town on Saturday.
According to LDA spokesperson, during the jointly carried out operation by the officials of the Estate Management Directorate, Town Planning Wing of LDA and representative from Water and Sanitation Agency, 300 counters, 45 sheds, 35 platforms and a number of other encroachments were removed from the area.
The LDA staff also demolished many illegal constructions established by local hotels on LDA's land and cleared the locality. All these encroachments had been illegally set up beyond the legitimate boundaries, in violation of building bye-laws, by the occupants of shops and were causing impediments in movement by pedestrians, flow of traffic as well as quick disposal of storm water from the market.
The LDA has urged residents of its schemes' area to eliminate all encroachments voluntarily without further delay, failing which they will have to bear the demolition charges as well. The encroachers would also be dealt with sections 33, 34 and 40 of the LDA Act 1975.
