'Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism and no country is more pivotal than Pakistan in its goals of defeating terrorism and restoring stability in the region.
The State Minister for Information, Syed Samsam Bokhari stated this while addressing the concluding session of a two-day workshop titled 'Workshop on Media for Peace Process', organised by PTV in collaboration with British High Commission on Saturday.
The MD PTV, Arshad Khan, Press Attache, British High Commission, Jennifer Wilkes and people from international and national broadcasting industry also attended the workshop.
The Pakistan People's Party led coalition government is committed to combating the menace of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, Bokhari said, adding that media should play its due role in this regard. He said that late Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life while struggling to eradicate the menace of terrorism.
'We are fully committed to follow her footsteps and developing a prosperous and peaceful society is the goal of our government,' he added. Further, he said that PTV would continue its efforts to provide training opportunities to boost the professional capabilities of its employees.
Arshad Khan lauded the role of British High Commission in conducting such workshops. 'These kinds of training workshops will help media persons to improve their skills,' he stated.
Furthermore, 'No stone would be left unturned in improving the performance of PTV and its role in meeting the social responsibilities would continue and would be enhanced with the passage of time on priority basis,' the MD said. Commenting on the workshop, Press Attache, Wilkes said that workshop will help ordinary people to highlight their issues on camera and to fill the gap between media and society.
