22 Dec, 2008

Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) chief Nawab Talal Akbar Bugti on Sunday said the government had promised him to soon apprehend former President Pervez Musharraf for 'killing' Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and other crimes he committed during his tenure.
He was addressing a press conference after a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and expressed his pessimism over the government's measures taken to compensate Baloch for their long deprivation as the PPP government had promised the Baloch people soon after assuming charge of the government by apologising over the treatment meted out to them in the past.
The nationalist leader said that advisor on Interior Rehman Malik had promised to him that the government will soon apprehend former President Musharraf for not only killing of his over 80-year old father Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti but also what he termed crimes of killing of people in the tribal areas, Swat, Lal Masjid and Balochistan.
Talal further said that former dictator Musharraf is not only the killer of Nawab Akbar Bugti but also responsible for the murder of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
He was surprised that though he had lodged an FIR with the police against Musharraf for killing his father but it has not been registered yet. JWP chief said his party was not satisfied with present government's steps taken to bring normalcy in Balochistan at all.
"Even the elected government had not halted military operation in the province rather it was intensified during last three days in which more than 50 persons were injured. He feared that the country would suffer an irreparable loss if the situation does not improve in Balochistan. When asked about parliamentary committee constituted to address the grievances of people of Balochistan, he said, "it was just a joke with Balochistan".
He made it clear that the people of Balochistan would never accept migrants as locals. "Only people of Balochistan have the right over province's resources. We will never accept settlers as locals," he maintained. JWP also distributed among the media persons its charter of demands presented to President Asif Ali Zardari. The JWP demanded of the government to immediately halt military operation in Balochistan and set up an independent commission to probe the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and his around 66 companions besides conducting DNA tests for satisfaction. About Gwadar port, JWP has conveyed to the government that control at the Gwadar port rests only with the people of Balochistan. The award of National Finance Commission (NFC) on the basis of area is also included in the 16-point charter of demands presented to President Asif Ali Zardari.
The party has urged the government to immediately stop the role of intelligence agencies in Sui and Dera Bugti and close down its offices there. Moreover, Bugti said these two areas of Sui and Dera Bugti be converted into 'B' areas instead of 'A' areas.
He said security agencies had picked up a huge number of Baloch people, who should be released without any further delay. JWP chief said President Zardari has assured him to resolve the contentious issues through the parliament. To a question, he said he had no contacts with the Balochis who are at mountains including his nephew Brahamdagh Bugti ."We don't know where are they and they probably don't know where are we. We are all scattered", he said while responding to a query.
