Her martyrdom is a great tragedy for nation: Fakhar

27 Dec, 2008

The martyrdom of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was a great tragedy for our nation. After the tragic demise of Mohtarma Shaheed, every moment of the history of Pakistan is moving ahead with her sad and agonising memories. These views were expressed by Fakhar Zaman, Chairman, Pakistan Academy of Letter (PAL).
At a briefing on two poetic and prose books, consisting of pieces written by various poets and writers from all Pakistani languages to pay homage to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Both the books have been titled as "Shaheed Benazir Bhutto." He said that it was a matter of great honour for PAL to publish these books on the first death anniversary of Mohtarma Shaheed.
The PAL Chairman said that many poets and writers have written plenty of material in poetry and verse throughout the world to pay tribute to the Daughter of the East and it is not possible to collect all of it in a single series of books.
Fakhar Zaman said the academy published the books to pay homage to Mohtarma Shaheed on the one hand, and ensure their provision as reference books, on the other. These books, he said, contain articles, columns, and poetic pieces written and composed by eminent writers of the country on the tragic demise of Benazir Bhutto.
Fakhar Zaman said for him it was an agonising experience to collect and compile the articles soaked with the blood of the martyred leader. However, it was made possible with the active co-operation of Shakir Hussain Sahir, Seher Siddiqui, Waqar Fani, Zaheeruddin Malik, Director General PAL, Saeeda Durrani, Assistant Director (Research and Translation) and others who looked after the project and made good efforts to publish these books.
