At least 25 people were killed and 15 others were injured when a truck in which they were travelling skidded off a highway in Bangladesh on Sunday, police said. The accident occurred in thick fog. The truck, carrying mostly labourers, crashed into a ditch at Ashiqpur near Tangail district town some 100 km (62 miles) north-west of the capital Dhaka.
Police and rescuers rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the mangled truck and removed injured to a nearby hospital. "Among the injured five were in critical condition," police Sub-Inspector Kazi Shamsul Haq told Reuters. Bad weather conditions are often a factor in road accidents in Bangladesh.
