New Delhi politicising Afzal Guru's issue: APHC

03 Jan, 2009

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in occupied Kashmir has said that New Delhi is politicising the issue of Afzal Guru. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the Indian leadership wanted to appease anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmiri parties like BJP, VHP and Shiva Sena by hanging Afzal Guru in a fake case, KMS reported.
He said that the Indian government would commit a blunder if Afzal was hanged. History is testimony to the fact that innocent Kashmiris have been implicated in bomb blasts in New Delhi and other Indian states, he added.
Senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement said that after Mumbai attacks the communal forces were putting pressure on Indian government to hang Afzal as soon as possible. He said that world knew that Afzal had not been given chance to defend himself. "India's claims of being a democratic country stand exposed by not giving free and fair trial to Afzal," Gilani maintained.
Syed Ali Gilani said that New Delhi should not expect Kashmiris to remain silent if something untoward happened to Afzal. "Like Afzal thousands of Kashmiris are languishing in Indian jails on fake charges", he added.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik said that New Delhi should not take Kashmiris for granted and test their patience. He said that international human rights organisations should take note of Indian atrocities being committed on Afzal and other Kashmiri detainees. He said hanging Afzal would prove suicidal.
