Human rights body appeals for release of Iraqi journalist

The Human Rights Society of Pakistan (HRSP) has appealed for release of Iraqi journalist Muntazar Al Zaidi, who has been arrested for throwing shoes on the US President during his visit to Baghdad. Former federal law minister and Senator S M Zafar, Chairman HRSP told APP here on Friday.
He said that the HRSP in its meeting held in Lahore has condemned torturing the said journalist who did not commit any criminal offence. "The incident represents the sentiments that prevail generally in the world and especially the Muslim countries and Iraq regarding the unjustified illegal an arbitrary invasion of Iraq under a false pretext', said a resolution passed by the HRSP. The society appealed to consider the reaction of the journalist as an expression of his thoughts and consider it as his way of using his fundamental rights.
