RCB halts work in Lane-6

03 Jan, 2009

Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), which started maintenance of Lane-6, Peshawar Road, has stopped the work without any justification on Friday. The RCB awarded contract for the repair of Lane-6 last month following the release of development funds for 2008-09 but the contractor has abandon the project.
Though the contract for the work starting from the main Peshawar Road to T-crossing was also awarded, but the contractor has left the project with the blessing of the RCB maintenance department.
Lane-6 is between the two prestigious educational institutions; City School and Beacon House School, Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi. Lane-6 is the abode of eminent politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen and lawyers, but RCB awarded contract for its development after a lapse of 10 years.
The lane's sewerage system is choked - and water is supplied on weekly basis though the payment of water bills is charged in advance. The huge heaps of the garbage speak about the negligence of the RCB. The residents of the area have appealed to the RCB Executive Officer to restart the maintenance work of the Lane-6 at an earliest and stop the payment to the contractor.
