People urged to use gas prudently

The domestic consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) should ensure prudent use of precious commodity as the gap between supply and demand has reached upto 900 million cubic feet per day.
Senior General Manager (Distribution) Mujahid Anwar on Sunday told a private TV channel the people should avoid using geyser and gas heaters unless acute needs aiming to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to vital power plants and industry.
The demand of gas has increased by four times upto 2,700 million cubic feet from 1,800 mcf. While the supply situation remains static at 1,800 million cubic feet per day. The gap is being narrowed by resorting to load management in industries, he said.
SNGPL has prior agreement with the industries that the company will provide them uninterrupted gas from March to November. While maximum possible supplies would be maintained from December to February.
All the industries are not closed as the company was providing them gas to most of the industries on alternate basis, he added. Regarding increase in rates of gas, he said company has nothing to do with it. And it is a prerogative of the government. Also government is bound to honour the agreements inked with gas exploration companies.
