'Child protection bill to be tabled in parliament within month'

Director National Commission for Child Welfare and Development (NCCWD), Ministry of Social Welfare & Special Education Pakistan, Sajjad Ahmed, has said that present government was giving priority to the protection of child rights.
He said child protection bill would be tabled in the parliament within month time for safeguarding the rights of children and protecting them from abuse. Sajjad was responding a question during a media workshop on "CHILD RIGHTS & CHILD PROTECTION" organised by NCCWD here at a local hotel on Sunday.
He said presentation of child protection bill in the parliament was delayed due to lack of interests on part of the previous government, adding the present government has taken keen interest in the issue, worked on it and has directed to submit the same in the parliament within a month time.
The first session of this workshop was presided over by Joint Secretary Social Welfare and Special Education M. Ashraf Ali Khan while closing session was presided over by Regional Director Information, Government of Sindh Hyderabad Imdad Ali Keerio. The representatives of electronic & print media of Hyderabad and various districts of Sindh attended the workshop and took part in deliberations and presented their recommendations for the protection of the child rights and role of the media in this regard.
M. Ashraf Ali Khan said that media has been proved as a strong instrument for creating awareness among the masses. He said that the purpose of this workshop was to educate and sensitise the media men for reporting on protection of child rights, provided in the constitution and other rules & regulations.
