The 81st birth anniversary of country's first directly elected Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan People's Party Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was observed in Multan and rest of the country on Monday. The birth anniversary of former prime minister of Pakistan was observed with simplicity due to Muharram-ul-Haraam.
No cake-cutting ceremony was held. Besides seminars in major cities, Quran Khawani was held in party headquarters across the country including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Rahimyarkhan and other cities/towns for the departed soul.
The Speakers said on Monday that PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's 81st birth anniversary today (Monday) is a day for the government to reiterate its commitment to empower the people, the cause advocated by Bhutto. "The Pakistani nation's deep commitment to democracy, despite repeated attempts at crushing our aspirations, is the result of Bhutto's uncompromising approach to people's rule," said Khalid Hanif Lodhi, District President, Khurshid Ahmed Khan City President, Khawaja Rizwan Alam, M.Salim Raja and Tariq Raza Khan on the eve of Bhutto's birth anniversary while addressing a meeting here today.
They said that the reason that leaders like Bhutto continue to live in the national memory is because of the dedication they display to his cause. "For Bhutto, the empowerment of the common man was the supreme agenda that he pursued until his last breath," they remarked.
They said that Bhutto was the first political leader of his times who brought politics out of the drawing rooms of the elite class into the streets to the masses. His political objective was premised on the common man's right to rule through a fair representative system. It is the success of his ideology that despite many regime changes after his demise in 1979, Pakistanis continue to support a political and representative rule, they remarked.
Khurshid Khan said that Bhutto took the arduous task of nation rebuilding after the 1971 war, turning Pakistan's economic, political, military and civilian systems around. He laid the foundation of strong support structures for the economy, they added.
