Water supply scheme inaugurated in Parachinar

07 Jan, 2009

The Political Administration of Kurram Agency has rehabilitated schemes of drinking water supply to the city and rehabilitation of water drainage system in Parachinar City and adjacent areas which benefit 60,000 populace in the area.
The only drinking water source was 10 km away in the mountains of Koh-i-Saffed, Zeran and Malana, in the north of Parachinar which was insufficient to cater to the daily needs of the people of the area and some of the population used to buy water from water tankers while majority were using stinky water from canals and ponds, exposing them to various kinds of diseases. Besides the water drainage system was some 55 years old due to which the sanitary conditions were very bad.
Keeping these two grave concerns of the people of Parachinar City in view, the political administration prioritised the schemes by rehabilitating the 55-year old reservoir having one million gallon capacity by constructing its roof, rehabilitation of the boundary wall, construction of a wall around the diameter of the reservoir to ensure equal distribution of water network to every part of the city with excavation, distilling and cleaning of the reservoir as well as installation of water quality testing tool.
This has ensured 24-hour clean drinking water supply to the city and adjoining areas of Parachinar. Political Agent Kurram Agency Arshad Majeed inaugurated the water supply scheme. Local elders, religious and political leaders were also present on this occasion.
